Fascia Yoga refers to a method of yoga that focuses more on working with the properties of our connective tissues rather than athletic, muscle based styles. Fascia (connective tissue) is wrapped around every part of our bodies, including every muscle and every muscle fiber.
The fascial network has many functions in the body including structure, posture, communication, energy, nutrient distribution, enhances communication through the Central Nervous System, transfer of forces and, it's what makes us one whole being.
There is a particular style of Fascia Yoga developed by Karin Gurtner and Tom Myers of Anatomy Trains that I've been inspired by. Karen incorporates the use of her Sling Myofascial Release props to work with the Fascial lines described in the Anatomy Trains book, now recommended in most yoga teacher trainings.
Working with this system I have found so much balance in my body where long lasting tension patterns had been. I notice a very distinct and clear sense in my body, energy and mental focus.
